The registered protocol

Starting from the frozen vector in sign-normalised coordinates (sigma0 = 0.25 relative), a (8/8_w, 16)-CMA-ES with mirrored sampling whose fitness is the mean score of 32 complete depth-4 five-stratum games on a fresh contiguous block of the training lease per generation (the frozen vector played on every block as a control) produces, after at most 40 generations, a distribution mean whose 64-game held-out paired delta against the frozen leaf passes the gate below. Tuning and deployment use the same search: the bit-exact fast engine (finding-13) with the leaf weights as data, depth 4, five strata, cache 60,000, worst-case-bound work, terminal utility -1,000,000, policy seed 0xd7075eed.

Pass criteria, fixed in advance

  • All CHECK gates passed before the first training seed was read: leaf bit-identity (0 mismatches), search parity with FastSearch (0 action/work/node/cache/depth mismatches), determinism across 1 and N threads, reflection, metadata blindness, completed depth and legality under perturbed weights.
  • Every generation artifact and the screen artifact have incompleteDecisionsTotal 0, illegalDecisionsTotal 0 and no score-identity failures.
  • Held-out screen, depth 4 five strata, 64 paired games on 0xa52b0000-0xa52b003f: bootstrap 95% lower bound of the paired score delta > 0 AND Student-t 95% lower bound > 0.
  • Held-out screen: candidate lower-quartile score >= frozen lower-quartile score.
  • Held-out screen: paired mean score delta > 0 in both halves (seeds 0-31 and 32-63).
  • The candidate evaluated is the CMA distribution mean written to candidate-weights.txt before the held-out lease is opened; no other vector is screened.

On pass: Freeze candidate-weights.txt with its SHA-256; register a fresh-block replication by a different runner and a seven-stratum-native evolution as successor experiments; do not open protected or final seeds.

On fail: Record a valid run with scientific outcome fail for this exact configuration (optimiser, budget, depth, strata, fitness); do not adopt the vector; report the 7-stratum transfer arm as diagnostic only; open no further cohort for this candidate.

Data and reuse

CHECK gates read previously opened development probe seeds 0xa5278000-0xa52784ff (leaf-reweight CHECK probes) and the PILOT read the first 16 seeds of the already-opened shared evaluation cohort 0xa51d1000 (runtime projection and exact-reproduction check only; no strength claim). Training uses the new lease 0xa5290000+ in contiguous 32-seed blocks, one block per generation, never replayed. The held-out screen uses the new, never-read lease 0xa52b0000-0xa52b003f, which is disjoint from every training block and from every range in docs/exploratory/lease-map.md. The 7-stratum transfer arm replays the same held-out seeds and is a secondary diagnostic on already-read data.

Limitations
  • Single 64-game development-tier screen on one machine; no replication yet (192 seeds of the held-out lease remain reserved for one).
  • Evolution and screen ran while a GPU training sweep shared the machine; wall times are not timing-grade, decisions are deterministic and unaffected.
  • The seven-stratum arm replays already-read held-out seeds and is diagnostic only.
  • The population-mean trajectory on training blocks carries the perturbation penalty of sampling at sigma and does not measure the candidate's own fitness.
  • Scripted-round (leaderboard) play of any vector is a demonstration and is not part of this result.
